Your Tenantify account holds your lease, your payment history, and your receipts. Securing it takes three minutes and prevents anyone else from accessing your data or making payments on your behalf.
Who this is for
Every tenant. Do this on day one, before your first rent payment.
What you’ll get done
Two-factor authentication enabled, your password updated (if needed), and your profile details confirmed.
Steps
1. Open Settings
Open the Settings menu (drawer on mobile, sidebar on desktop).
2. Update your profile (Profile tab)
The Profile tab shows your name, email, phone number, and role. Your email and role cannot be changed. Update your:
- Full Name. Make sure it matches your legal name, as it appears on lease documents and receipts.
- Phone Number. Enter your Nigerian phone number in +234 format. The field validates the format and shows your network carrier.
Click Save Changes when done.
3. Change your password (Security tab)
Click the Security tab. Under Change Password, fill:
- Current Password. Your existing password.
- New Password. Minimum 8 characters.
- Confirm New Password. Must match exactly.
Click Change Password. All three fields clear on success.
4. Enable two-factor authentication (Security tab)
On the same Security tab, find the Two-Factor Authentication section. Click Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
Step 1: Scan the QR code. Open Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or any TOTP app on your phone. Scan the QR code shown on screen. If you cannot scan, copy the secret key displayed below the QR code and enter it manually in your app.
Step 2: Enter the 6-digit code. Your authenticator app shows a 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds. Type it into the verification field and click Verify & Enable.
Step 3: Save your backup codes. A set of one-time backup codes appears. Each code can only be used once. Save them somewhere safe (screenshot, password manager, or paper in a locked drawer). Click I have saved these codes to finish.
5. Verify MFA is active
The Security tab now shows a green Enabled badge under Two-Factor Authentication, along with the number of backup codes remaining. Every future login will ask for a code from your authenticator app.
Disabling MFA
If you need to disable MFA (for example, if you lost your phone and recovered your account), return to Settings > Security and click Disable MFA.
If something goes wrong
QR code does not scan. Copy the secret key shown below the QR code and enter it manually in your authenticator app.
6-digit code rejected. The code refreshes every 30 seconds. Wait for a fresh code and try again. Check that your phone’s clock is set to automatic (TOTP codes depend on accurate time).
Locked out of your account. Use one of your backup codes to log in. Each backup code works once. If you have no codes left, contact [email protected].
Password change fails. Your current password is wrong. If you have forgotten it, use the password reset flow on the login page.
